Project Overview

Shoppers rarely search for a plaza by name alone. They search for solutions to everyday needs: where to buy shoes, where to grab lunch with the family, which mall has a pharmacy and a bank, where to shop outside the busy downtown tourist area.
And increasingly, they don’t just ask Google. They ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google’s AI Mode the same questions in plain language, and they trust the recommendation that comes back.
For commercial real estate, that visibility gap has a double cost: fewer shoppers walking through the doors, and a weaker story to tell current and prospective tenants. This campaign was designed around that reality. Instead of chasing rankings for their own sake, we connected shopper search intent, category and store-directory pages, local visibility, content, AI optimization, and conversion tracking into one complete visibility system, so the property could be found, chosen, and visited.

The Bahamas

A Well-Known Commercial Property That Was Invisible Online

Our client is a well-established commercial real estate property in The Bahamas: a retail shopping plaza home to dozens of tenants spanning fashion, footwear, dining, groceries, beauty, banking, healthcare, and everyday services. Locally, the plaza is a household name with steady foot traffic and free on-site parking.

Online, it barely existed. Shoppers searching for “best shopping plaza near me,” looking up store hours, or asking AI assistants where to shop were finding competitors instead. The property needed a digital presence that matched its real-world footprint, and it needed to show up not just on Google, but inside the AI answers that increasingly shape where people shop. For a commercial real estate owner, that visibility directly affects foot traffic, tenant performance, and the property’s leasing story.

The Challenge: Starting From Zero

When we began the engagement, the baseline told a stark story. Several areas were limiting the plaza’s online performance:
The challenge was not simply to generate more website traffic. The goal was to connect the plaza with shoppers actively deciding where to spend their time and money, across both Google and AI assistants, and then make it easy for them to take the next step.

Turning Search Visibility Into Shopper Opportunities

Cloud10 UX’s objective was to build a search presence that connected the plaza with shoppers at every stage of their decision, from broad discovery to a specific store lookup. The campaign focused on:
The ultimate goal: put the plaza in front of more shoppers at the exact moment they’re deciding where to go, and turn that visibility into measurable visits and inquiries.

The Strategy: SEO and GEO Working as One System

Rather than relying on a single tactic, Cloud10 UX approached the campaign as a connected visibility strategy. The plaza’s website, category pages, local presence, content, AI signals, and technical foundation all needed to work together, because Google and AI assistants draw on the same underlying signals when deciding who to recommend.
The campaign began with an analysis of how shoppers in the plaza’s market actually search for places to shop, eat, and run errands. Instead of focusing only on broad terms, the strategy prioritized searches with strong local and commercial intent. Keyword themes included:
  • Shopping plaza in [City]
  • Best shopping plaza / mall in [City]
  • Shopping mall outside [busy downtown area]
  • [Plaza name] store directory, hours, and stores
  • [Tenant name] + [Plaza name] (searches for individual stores and restaurants)
  • Shopping on [the plaza’s road / area]
  • One-stop shopping in [City]
  • Family-friendly shopping in [City]
  • Shopping plazas near [the airport / landmark]
  • Where can I eat on [the plaza’s road]?
This research determined which categories and tenants deserved dedicated visibility, and which pages should be built or optimized around each search intent.
For a physical shopping destination, the Google Business Profile is often the first impression. We optimized the plaza’s local presence around accurate, useful, and consistent information, including business categories, descriptions, opening hours, photos, posts, service attributes such as parking, and the connection between the profile and the website. A stronger profile created more opportunities for shoppers to discover the plaza directly in Search and Maps, and it now appears prominently for high-intent local queries.
Instead of treating the website as a single entity, each shopping category was given its own opportunity to rank. We built and optimized dedicated pages for Retail, Dining, Beauty & Wellness, and Home & More, plus a complete store directory. Each page was optimized around its specific search intent while giving shoppers genuinely useful information: which stores are there, what they offer, and what to expect. This created a direct connection between what shoppers search for and what the plaza provides, and these pages became some of the site’s top performers, with the retail category alone earning 519 organic clicks and 565 sessions in the period.
The website was reviewed and optimized end to end to create a stronger foundation for both search and conversion. Key areas included page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, keyword targeting, internal linking between the directory, categories, and guides, location relevance, image optimization, mobile experience, navigation, and clear calls-to-action. Every improvement was designed to make it easier for shoppers to find what they need and take the next step, not to add SEO elements for their own sake.
Many shoppers don’t start by searching for a specific plaza. They start with a question: where should I shop, what’s the best plaza for families, where can I find everything in one trip. The campaign used a shopping-guide blog strategy to answer those questions, building topical relevance around local shopping, dining, and errands. These guides now rank in their own right, drive clicks, and, just as importantly, give AI platforms citable, well-structured answers to recommend.
Local visibility depends on more than the website. We reviewed the plaza’s business information across relevant listings and directories, keeping the name, address, phone, website, categories, and service details consistent everywhere they appear. Consistent signals across the web make it easier for both Google and AI models to trust and recommend the plaza for nearby searches.
This is where the campaign went beyond traditional SEO. We structured the site’s content so AI platforms could confidently understand, cite, and recommend the plaza: entity-rich copy that clearly states what the plaza is, where it is, and what it offers; direct answers to conversational questions; structured data; and authoritative signals across the web. The result is a business that AI assistants can describe accurately and recommend by name when users ask where to shop.
Behind the visible pages, the website needed a technically sound foundation: crawlability, indexation, clean URL structure, page speed, mobile performance, and error fixes. We also implemented full analytics and event tracking, covering page views, store-page views, scrolls, searches, form starts, and contact submissions, so every result in this case study is measured, not estimated.

The Results: Six Months, Four Fronts

After implementing the strategy, the campaign delivered measurable improvements across Google Search visibility, keyword rankings, traffic and engagement, and AI recommendations. Here’s how each front performed.

Result 1: Google Search Visibility Built From Nothing

In six months, the site went from a standing start to more than 102,000 search impressions and 1,260+ organic clicks, with an average position of 7.8, meaning the plaza now routinely appears on page one for its target searches. Branded, tenant-related, directory, and local shopping queries all generate consistent clicks, with the top brand query alone earning 182 clicks.
  • Search impressions: 0 to 102K
  • Organic clicks: 0 to 1,260+
  • Average position: 8 (page one)
  • Top-performing pages: Homepage (568 clicks) and Retail category (519 clicks)
Bar charts showing organic clicks growing from 0 to 1,260 and search impressions from 0 to 102K over six months.

Result 2: Rankings Where They Matter

The plaza’s keyword footprint more than doubled, from 306 to 706 ranking keywords (+131%). Every tracked priority keyword moved from unranked to an established position, including five keywords holding the #1 spot on Google and a broad set ranking in the top 10 for brand, tenant, and local shopping searches.
  • Ranking keywords: 306 to 706 (+131%)
  • Keywords at #1 on Google: 5
  • Tracked keywords now ranked: 100% (from an unranked baseline)
  • Keywords ranking in the Bahamas market: 668

Result 3: Organic Search Became the #1 Traffic Channel

Estimated monthly organic traffic grew roughly 60%, from about 1,000 to 1,600 visits per month. More importantly, organic search became the single largest source of website sessions at 56.7%, and the most engaged one, with organic visitors showing a 52.5% engagement rate versus 18% for direct traffic.
  • Monthly organic traffic: 1,000 to 1,600 (+60%)
  • Share of sessions from organic search: 7%
  • Organic engagement rate: 5% (vs 18% for direct)
  • Total users in the period: 1K, with 4,000+ page views
  • Store-page views: 1,400+
Horizontal bar chart showing traffic sources: organic search 56.7%, direct 39.6%, referral 2.2%, AI assistants 0.9%.

Result 4: Recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini & Google AI

This is where GEO pays off. Within six months, the plaza earned 15 brand mentions and 15 cited pages across AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Google’s AI Mode, and Gemini. Traffic from AI assistants now appears as its own measurable channel in analytics.
When users ask AI assistants high-intent questions such as “Where should I shop in this area?”, “Best shopping plaza near me,” “Family-friendly shopping options,” and “Shopping plazas near the airport,” the client is now named, described, and often listed as the top recommendation, with its website cited as the source.
  • Brand mentions across AI platforms: 15
  • Pages cited by AI platforms: 15
  • Platforms recommending the plaza: ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini
  • AI assistants as a traffic channel: Now tracked and growing

Result 5: Real Shopper Actions, Not Vanity Traffic

Because measurement was built in from day one, we can see what visitors actually did: 1,400+ store-page views, 800+ scroll engagements, 209 form submissions, 167 form starts, and 94 contact submissions from over 100 unique users. These are shoppers checking stores before a visit, and prospective tenants and partners reaching out.
  • Form submissions: 209
  • Contact submissions: 94 (from 100+ unique users)
  • On-site search usage: 88 searches, showing active shopper intent

Turning Search Visibility Into Real Commercial Real Estate Value

The campaign focused on more than rankings. The goal was to create a stronger connection between online visibility and real-world value, which in commercial real estate means foot traffic, tenant performance, and leasing demand. As the property gained visibility across relevant local, tenant, and category searches, shoppers had more opportunities to discover it, explore its stores, check hours, get directions, and show up. Key business impacts included:
The result: search became more than a traffic channel. It became an ongoing source of shopper discovery, tenant value, and leasing inquiries, the metrics that matter most to a commercial real estate owner.

From Search to Storefront: The Shopper Journey

The strategy was designed around the way people actually discover, evaluate, and choose where to shop.

Discover

A shopper searches Google or asks an AI assistant where to shop, eat, or find a specific type of store nearby. The plaza now appears in results, map packs, and AI answers at that exact moment.

Compare

The plaza shows up alongside other shopping destinations in search results, Google Maps, AI Overviews, and ChatGPT recommendations, often listed as a top choice with its strengths described.

Explore

The shopper visits the website to browse the store directory, category pages, dining options, opening hours, and shopping guides.

Build Trust

Reviews, an active Google Business Profile, accurate tenant information, photos, and helpful content give the shopper confidence that the trip will be worth it.

Take Action

Clear calls-to-action make it easy to get directions, view a store page, submit an inquiry, or contact the plaza's management or leasing team.

Return & Recommend

A good visit turns searchers into regular shoppers who come back, leave reviews, and mention the plaza in the same conversations AI models learn from.

Why the Strategy Worked

The campaign worked because it combined SEO and GEO into one system built around how shoppers search and choose, instead of relying on rankings alone.

Local Intent First

We prioritized the high-intent searches that connect the plaza's stores and services with shoppers in its area, not vanity keywords.

Category-Level Optimization

Individual category and directory pages gave every part of the plaza its own chance to rank for the searches shoppers actually make.

Tenant-Led Search

Optimizing for tenant and store searches captured shoppers looking for a specific brand, then introduced them to everything else the plaza offers.

A Stronger Local Presence

Google Business Profile optimization, citation consistency, and location signals strengthened the plaza's presence across Search and Maps.

Built for AI From Day One

Entity-rich, well-structured, citable content meant AI platforms could confidently describe and recommend the plaza, turning GEO into a genuine acquisition channel rather than an afterthought.

Content That Answers Real Questions

Shopping guides reached shoppers earlier in their decision while building the topical authority that both Google and AI models reward.

Measured, Then Improved

Full event tracking meant every decision was informed by real behavior, and every result reported here is backed by data, not estimates.

The Takeaway

Search behavior is splitting between Google and AI assistants, and this engagement proves commercial real estate can win both at once. Six months of combined SEO + GEO turned a property with zero digital search presence into the answer Google ranks and AI recommends. For property owners, that's the difference between being findable and being chosen, and it compounds into foot traffic, tenant value, and leasing demand.
